It's also free to them and there is a large audience to pick from, like the cheetah stalking a pack of wildebeest looking for the older and weaker victims... Several years ago when some people were still getting online for the first time they would make a yahoo account and learn IMing and were the best targets. And yes, Ben, the immediate interpersonal relationship gives them a better gauge for how to proceed further.
In the end, I will have to say it's the free price tag, they don't have to steal a CC number to get in. |

UPDATE: He's from Vietnam, and i told him i was not in the money having. He tells me "Ok". Nicest lad i ever met. We became friends on Skype. I don't really feel like baiting him. He seems nice.

I heard of a baiter who mailed a Russian woman for two years on and off and she never asked for money .
If you are 16 living in Nigeria and you hear about a school friend getting money from sitting in a cyber cafe it might well be human nature for a 16 year old to either get involved or do otherwise .Some repetitive tasks Nigerian kids do without ever speaking to directly to victims puts them (A) in the wrong place and (B) at 16 you soak it up like a sponge . Lots of people around the world have now got access this fantastic tech and if they are criminally inclined will try their hand at scamming , it could be as simple as that for the Vietnam answer . I tend to think if he is already in the position of mailing people how it would be better for him to keep you as a friend rather than to have you out him as an enemy but what do I know I've not spoken to him. |
